The son of Courtney Marteniz and The Shade, Lord of Death and Darkness, master of the Vale. A life mage like his mother, his power saved him from being stillborn. As a result, Cole was born undead: like vampires, he is immortal, but more like his zombie cousins, he is simply the walking dead. He has no breath or pulse, remains cold to the touch, and does not require food or drink to survive, but he is imbued with a soul. He is, some would say, the best and worst of his parents: like his mother, he's sweet-natured and glib, but possesses his father's inherently dark nature and predilection for violence.

Working in the family trade, Cole is a mortician in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like his father, he is heavily covered in mystical tattoos, and can travel freely between the realms of the living and the dead.
